Instagram’s latest update adds new features to Direct Messages (DMs) to make chatting easier and more helpful.
More people are using Instagram to share photos and videos privately through DMs instead of posting them publicly.
Instagram’s boss, Adam Mosseri, said that sending DMs is now much more popular than posting to the feed or Stories. He called the move a big change and said it’s why Instagram is working on improving messaging.
A major new feature in this update lets you turn voice messages into text.
When you get a voice message, you’ll see a “View transcription” button. The button shows the message as text before, during, or after you listen to it.
This feature helps you understand voice messages when listening is not possible, such as in a quiet place.
The update also makes voice messages longer. Before, they could only be one minute, but now they can be up to five minutes.
The longer voice messages allow users more time to share their thoughts, and people receiving them can still use the new transcription tool to read the message.
Instagram tested the longer voice message feature with some users before rolling it out to everyone. It’s now part of the big update that makes chatting on the app better.
The update also adds a “Follow All” button in group chats.
The new Instagram update lets you follow everyone in a group chat with one tap instead of following each person separately. The feature is helpful in big group chats where you aren’t already connected to everyone.
This update shows that Instagram is focusing more on DMs and making changes based on how people like to share and chat now.
